Lighting History: the lighting project for the Nobile Collegio della Mercanzia in Perugia

Working on a listed heritage building like the Nobile Collegio della Mercanzia in Perugia requires technical expertise, design sensitivity, and bespoke solutions.
A symbol of the city’s mercantile power, the Collegio features frescoed vaults, wooden architectural details, and refined decorative elements.
Every lighting intervention must respect heritage constraints and ensure minimal visual impact.
In this complex context, Zero55 developed a fully integrated lighting system, finely tuned to enhance the space and its decorative features while preserving the historical identity of the site.

the project

The project required:

  • Invisible integration of luminaires, avoiding invasive systems

  • Precise light control to enhance surfaces and volumes without glare

  • Color temperature and CRI calibrated for historical interiors

the products

A combination of Frame, Micro 40, and Glance-In—internally developed and customized—was used for this installation:

  • Frame, surface-mounted luminaire with asymmetric Wall Washer optics, ideal for even illumination of curved wooden vaults, ensuring discreet integration and precise optical control.

  • Micro 40, mounted on a magnetic bracket, allows for easy application and precise placement of light points only where needed.

  • Glance-In, a recessed indoor luminaire designed for low luminance grazing light, provides accurate light control in architecturally sensitive environments.

The entire system was designed to be visually invisible, yet highly effective in enhancing spatial perception.

THE RESULT

A lighting solution that dialogues with the architecture, respects materials, and reveals the space with clarity, without ever overpowering it.
